Currently the most popular destination on all of Baja California Sur, Los Cabos, named for the slender cape extending eastward from Baja's southernmost tip, has gradually developed into a tourist hot spot over the course of the last forty years. Los Cabos (The Capes) actually refers to two towns--San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas--and the 20-mile corridor that connects the towns at the south end of the Baja Peninsula. Cabo San Lucas boasts of luxury accommodations, beautiful golf courses, endless shopping, and spirited nightlife. San Jose del Cabo remains rooted in the traditions of a quaint Mexican town.
Cabo San Lucas where the sea, sun, and desert join to cast an air of mystery and romance over all who visit, was once a tranquil fishing village and in times of long ago a hangout for pirates…. Ahhhrr. For years, Cabo was the remote playground reserved solely for private yacht owners. They flocked here to be near “Marlin Alley”, as the waters around Cabo have often been described. Although no longer the fishing village of old, the magic of Cabo remains. Located at the southernmost tip of the Baja peninsula, Cabo has been blessed with what many describe as the perfect climate.
Now, Los Cabos is poised on the pinnacle of a development explosion. The two lane road that connects Cabo San Lucas to the capital in La Paz is currently being widened to four lanes. There is a new marina being built in San Jose del Cabo and expansion is everywhere. With a growth rate of 17% annually, and predictions of 100,000 US citizens retiring in Mexico every year, there is much to entice tourists to Los Cabos’ pristine shores.
